The training program was designated and is taught by professionals from both the education and healthcare fields. The format includes the use of workbooks, lectures, videos and hands-on training. The content includes general information regarding health, safety and childhood development ranging from newborns to age twelve. In addition, the needs of the Aupair are addressed in discussions about cultural differences and adjusting to the United States and his/her new life living with an American family. Interviewers should become familiar with both the logistics and program content of the New York City based training program. This will enable the Interviewer to respond to applicant questions about the program and to offer a complimentary pre-departure orientation program for the Aupairs.

Logistics

·        Aupairs are in class from 9:00am to 5:30pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

·        Aupairs will have three roommates.

·        Breakfast is served Tuesday morning through Friday morning in the hotel restaurant. Aupairs are given meal vouchers for continental breakfasts, which include a choice of pastries, yoghurt, fruit and coffee.

·        Lunch is served in the hotel on Tuesday and Thursday. Because of the schedule of the CPR training on Wednesday, Aupairs are responsible for their own lunch on that day. There are many options for lunch in and around the hotel

·        Dinner each night is the responsibility of the Aupair.

·        An optional New York City tour is offered (by Cultural Highways, a tour company) on Tuesday evening.

·        Domestic travel information and tickets are distributed to all Aupairs on Thursday afternoon. Aupairs depart the hotel either by taxi, shuttle bus or Host Family pick-up. Aupairs travelling to their host community via train need only to walk across the street from the hotel to depart from Penn Station.

·        Aupairs are given evaluation forms to complete about the program once they have arrived in his/her host community. This feedback enables Aupair USA to continually reassess the training program to ensure it meets the expectations and needs of the Aupairs.

·        Aupairs are advised in a pre-departure mailing to bring at least $200 in U.S. dollars to cover their expenses while in New York City.
