meets over a longer period of time but only meets for an hour or two weekly, the Aupair may choose to use the classroom weeks method to determine compliance.

Host Families must provide up to $500 toward the Aupair's effort to fulfil the educational requirements of the program. These funds can be used toward tuition and registration costs as well as for course related books and materials. They cannot be used toward the costs associated with an internship, volunteer work, sports or sporting equipment, vacations or activities for their Aupair. Au Pairs need to take caution and use this money wisely. In some cases it may be necessary for the Aupair to pay for classes should the cost of classes exceed the $500 provided by the Host Family.

Aupairs are required to complete an Aupair Educational Component Verification Form for each class taken during his/her year and to submit it with a copy of any certificates given by the instructor or institution to his/her Local Coordinator. At the end of the year, the Aupair will receive a Certificate of Completion from his/her Local Coordinator provided the Aupair has completed the educational requirements.

Aupairs who chose not to participate in this important aspect of the program are in violation of the program regulations and terms of the J-1 visa. These individuals may be asked to return home at their own expense and will forfeit the year-end Completion Bonus. Additionally, Aupairs who have not completed their educational requirements may not be considered candidates for a year-end Certificate of Completion or Completion Bonus.

C.     INSURANCE COVERAGE

As part of the program guidelines, Aupair USA provides each Aupair with health insurance from the day they enter the country until the conclusion of their 12th month with the program . This insurance carries $100 one-time deductible. This means that the Aupair is responsible for the first $100 of medical costs should he/she require the services of a doctor or hospital. During the New York City based training program, Aupairs are given information regarding the insurance policy and information on how to file a claim for reimbursement of medical expenses. Medical receipts relating to doctor visits or medications should be retained until the deductible is reached and then sent directly to the insurance company for processing.

Aupair USA utilises the services of an outside insurance claims processor and claim forms are to be sent directly to this organisation. Should an Aupair experience any difficulties with regard to his/her insurance coverage, the New York staff of Aupair USA may provide assistance.
