Aupairs need to be
aware that Aupair USA does not guarantee reassignment. Aupairs are advised
that as soon as they leave the Host Family's home and begin temporary housing
they have only two weeks for the transition team to identify a new Host Family.
Aupair USA will pay up to two weeks of temporary housing fro an Aupair. If the
transition team cannot find a new Host Family for the Aupair, the Aupair will
have to return home at his/her own expense and will forfeit his/her $500
Completion Bonus.
The Local Coordinator
and the Aupair USA transition staff will evaluate each transition. The decision
to ask an Aupair to self-repatriate is made only after serious evaluation. Many
factors are weighed in this process and the staff conduct a thorough
investigation into the circumstances surrounding a recommendation that an Au
Pair is asked to return to his/her home country without an opportunity to
consider a second placement.
If an Aupair decides to
remain in the country illegally, Aupair USA will:
·
Alert the Co-operator
·
Cancel the Aupair's J-1 visa
·
Cancel the Aupair's health
insurance
·
Notify the U.S. Immigration
Service
C. TRANSITONS: CHANGING HOST FAMILIES
"Transitions" is the
process involving the matching of the families and Aupairs whose first
placement did not prove successful. Transitions occur when both the Host Family
and the Aupair decide that they can no longer remain together after making
every effort to resolve their differences (including meeting with their Local
Coordinator). A placement change may occur for a number of reasons. These
perceived characteristics by the first family, might include:
·
Personality clashes or
incompatibility (the primary reason for transitions)
·
Poor English language ability
·
Poor childcare skills
·
Poor driving skills
·
Unrealistic expectations on the
part of the Aupair and/or the Host Family
·
Host Family's inability to
comply with program policies and/or U.S. government program regulations
·
A need for the Aupair to return
home prematurely due to a family death, illness etc.
·
A change in the Host Family's
situation i.e. lose of job, relocation
