a telephone interview. If they are living in the same area, they may set up an in-person meeting. If the Host Family is interested in the Aupair, Aupair USA will forward the Host Family's application to the Aupair.

If the Aupair accepts the Host Family, the Local Coordinator and the New York staff arrange travel for the Aupair. Again, if the first Host Family requests, the Aupair must remain with them for two weeks from the date the transition process is initiated. Au Pair USA will pay up to $150 towards the cost of the Aupair's travel to their new Host Family. It is the new Host Family's responsibility to pay for any amount above $150.

The Local Coordinator will discuss financial issues with the Host Family and the Aupair at the three-point meeting. The discussion will include vacation pay, the educational allowance, and any unpaid bills (especially phone bills). Both parties should agree to a payment plan for any outstanding debts.

If the program is unable to find a suitable placement for the Aupair within a two week time period, he/she may be asked to self-repatriate. Aupairs need to be aware that should this occur, he/she will be required to pay the cost of his/her travel home and will forfeit the Completion Bonus. The reasons Aupairs are commonly asked to self-repatriate once the first placement ended prematurely include:

·        Poor English skills

·        Poor driving skills

·        Unreasonable placement expectations including: placement in specific locations, limits on the number of children in the family, schedule restrictions, car use requests, or refusal to consider placement in a family with an at-home mother or single parent.

·        Poor attitude or apparent lack of maturity during the transition process.

Additionally, and Au Pair will be asked to self repatriate in the following situations after a thorough investigation by Aupair USA:

·        An Aupair is accused of abusing a child in any manner

·        An Aupair is accused of neglecting a child (i.e. leaving a child alone in a car), providing improper care of a child (i.e. neglecting to feed or bathe a baby)

C.     RETURN FLIGHTS AT YEAR-END

Approximately 2 to 3 months prior to the Aupair's departure, he/she will receive a "Return Flight Request Form". The scheduling of these flights is based on availability and special arrangements may be subjected to a surcharge at the Aupair's expense.
